Description

Cold work tool steel with 8% chromium. It is produced by remelting, which gives it a homogenous structure for better machinability and excellent surface finish.

Proprierties

Good hardness, toughness, ductility and compressive strength. Excellent resistance to both abrasive and adhesive wear.

Applications

Blades and knives for punching, screws and cylinders, rollers for cold rolling, metal stamping, knives, cold stamping dies and punches, drawing and deep drawing, coining.

Microstructure comparison

Compared to 1.2379, BCR8 has a lower carbide volume, but surprises with significantly increased toughness and high wear resistance.

Hardness potential

Due to its chemical composition, BCR8 has a very high hardness potential:
• technically, a maximum hardness of 62-64 HRC can be set.
• three temperings above 500°C are recommended
